Youth Projects

Our very rare, Kerry Bog pony, Red Moon, is being trained on Saturdays after therapy sessions by Savannah Marten, our 13 year old volunteer.  Savannah was named lead trainer of the minis last year, and she’s taken on Red Moon as her special project since he came to us last December.

Savannah has been doing ground work on the weekends with Red.  He’s been doing very well, so Savannah decided to get on his back several weeks ago.  He’d had a saddle on his back several times and never reacted, so we decided that it was safe for Savannah to lie across his back and eventually ride him bareback.

The entire process took less than a half an hour, because it was apparent that Red had no issues with someone riding him.

Savannah is very tall and lean - well below Red’s weight limit - and he’s close to the ground; so it wouldn’t have been much of a fall if she’d lost her balance.

Having youth volunteers is an important aspect of White Bridle’s program; because children need to see a purpose for their lives, and volunteer work gives them the opportunity to become leaders; to serve others doing valuable work; and to have adventures that will shape their future.
